Orlando Pirates appear to have joined the race in pursuit of a defender who has been on form for his team this season.

As indicated by sources, the Buccaneers are expected to make a move for TS Galaxy's rising star Samukelo Kabini, ahead of the next transfer window.

Kabini has been on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs, according to close sources, as previously reported by the Siya crew in January although there was no formal approach made for his services.

Pirates will be looking to strengthen their squad after not making any signings in January, and the 20-year-old left-back could be a key addition to coach Jose Riveiro's squad.

Kabini, a former Pirates development player, has significantly grown in stature since his move to Galaxy in 2023.

Now with valuable PSL experience under his belt, a return to his former club could be on the cards.

His performances this season have been impressive, and his inspiring display against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns last night further cemented his credentials.

Kabini stood out with his defensive solidity and attacking contributions against the Brazilians at Mbombela Stadium.

With Pirates aiming to bolster their squad for domestic dominance and CAF Champions League ambitions, Kabini's return could align with their long-term vision.

The Buccaneers are expected to make significant signings to enhance their chances of competing at the highest level in the Betway Premiership and on the continental stage.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Pirates' transfer activity, with Kabini emerging as a potential key signing for the future.

His return to the club could mark a full-circle moment in his career.

"He (Kabini) is a player that Pirates are monitoring closely and so far, he has impressed. Don't rule out the possibility of them (Pirates) making an official approach at the end of the season," said the source.
