In a country that experiences such vast income inequality like ours, it is always good when the big spenders give back to the community. Orlando Pirates has recently stepped up to the plate and begun to do their part when it comes to improving the state of the nation.
The Buccaneers have announced a partnership between themselves and the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital Trust. This campaign will involve raising awareness and funds for the trust that will go towards new additions to of the hospital and the training of staff, i.e. nurses and doctors.
This is similar to what footballing giants FC Barcelona initiated, a "reverse sponsorship" deal with UNICEF a few years ago. Instead of going the traditional route and charging a big corporate millions to put their name on the match-day jersey, Barca instead decided to promote the UNICEF brand for the benefit of children all over the world.
Well done to both Barcelona and Pirates. We need more giants who care; now keep it up and prove it is not just a once-off…
