Chiefs Defender: I'm Not Thinking About My Contract...

A Kaizer Chiefs defender has opened up about his contract situation with his deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Full-back Edmilson Dove has been a regular in the Chiefs since returning from his injury lay-off back in March, featuring in the team's last six matches across all competitions.

The defender's contract with the Soweto giants comes to an end in June, but he revealed that his focus is on the pitch ahead of Saturday's Betway Premiership clash against TS Galaxy.

"Obviously I am not thinking about my contract now. I am not worried about that because what is on my mind right now is getting as much game time as I can. Everyone knows that I'm coming from a long lay-off and as I said, there are certain things that are not in our jurisdiction to talk about, and I'm not really focused on that right now. I just want to help my teammates so that we finish in a good and better position for this season," Dove told journalists.

The left-back, however, confessed that though injuries are a setback, it has also been a learning curve for him as a player.

"Injuries are setbacks but I think I have learnt to overcome certain difficulties. This is not my first injury that puts me on a long lay-off. So just having the right mindset, the right willingness to be back on the field with the gents was the main goal," Dove concluded.

The Mozambique international's contract is coming to an end on 30 June, but there could be light at the end of the tunnel as he has the chance to be registered as a local player, having obtained his permanent residence in South Africa.
