Nigeria Coach: South Africa Are A Good Side But...

The Nigerian Football Federation have officially announced their new head coach for the men's national team will be.

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has claimed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa is a must-win encounter.

Nigeria run the risk of missing out on the World Cup as the side have only managed one win in six games so far. With four games remaining in the qualifying campaign, Chelle said the Super Eagles needed to win all their remaining games.

The African giants are set to face Rwanda at home in their next game before a crucial tie away against table-toppers South Africa.

Chelle singled out the game against Bafana as a turning point for their World Cup hopes but insisted the focus was on Rwanda first.

"It's an obligation we win in South Africa, but the most important match for us right now is Rwanda in Uyo," Chelle told Score Nigeria

"South Africa are a good side, but for that game we cannot afford to allow them to play, but first, we have to beat Rwanda at home and then we will focus on the game in South Africa."

Nigeria's remaining fixtures include away matches against Lesotho and home matches against Benin. Anything less than four wins could end their 2026 World Cup hopes.
