Hi guys, a happy weekend to you all. On Friday we saw the UEFA Champions League semi-final draw, with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich draw against each other, while Juventus will face the champions, Real Madrid.
Bayern have been dominant thus far in their domestic campaign, but apart from their 6-1 drumming against Porto, they have shown some frailties in Europe – notably in defence. I believe Pep Guardiola has one of the most complete squads at his disposal, but injuries to key players may be the team’s downfall.
On the other hand, Luis Enrique’s side has looked unstoppable in Europe thus far, embarrassing Paris Saint-Germain on their way to the semis, with their star-studded trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, forcing me to believe that they’ll prove too strong for their former manager’s team.
In the other fixture, I think there may be an upset on the cards – or at least I hope so.
Juventus have gone about their business quietly in Europe, brilliantly battling their way through to the semis for the first time in 12 seasons. Yes, Real are the competition’s current Champions, but I simply feel that going in to the fixture as outright favourites, may result in a choke.
I think if Juventus are to overcome Los Blancos, they’ll put Italian football back on the map in the Champions League, as the last Italian team to have won the competition was Inter Milan in 2010 under Jose Mourinho.
These are just my thoughts, and I’m keen to hear yours!
Who do you think we’ll see in the final?
Let me know, guys!
Kurt.
