Chiefs Trophies...The Last 6 Coaches To Get Them

Chiefs Trophies...The Last 6 Coaches To Get Them

As Kaizer Chiefs look set for another barren season, the Siya crew has dug up the list of Amakhosi coaches who won silverware during their tenures!

Stuart Baxter has returned for a second spell and has found it tougher than before having won a total four trophies the first time around.

The club is aiming for at least second place to get that CAF Champions League spot, but still have very faint hopes that log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns could slip up and they miraculously overtake them in the DStv Premiership title race.

Chiefs, referred to as SA cup kings for many years, have lost their spark and haven't celebrated a major trophy since May 2015, when Baxter was there for his first tenure.

Amakhosi have had four different coaches in seven years before bringing the Englishman back as their fifth mentor, hoping to reignite the past.

Gordon Igesund talks about his most difficult player to manage during his championship-winning season at Mamelodi Sundowns!

Here's a list of the previous coaches and what they have won…

Paul Dolezar

Duration: 1997-99

No league title for the Frenchman, but Dolezar was able to get Chiefs the Rothmans Cup, twice!

Muhsin Ertugral

Duration: 1999-02

The Turkish mentor won every domestic cup on offer in the PSL era, but the league title eluded his Amakhosi side. Ertugral also guided Chiefs to the African Cup Winners' Cup, now merged with the CAF Cup to be the Confederation Cup.

Like Baxter, he returned for a second stint between 2007 and 2009 and was still able to win the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout trophies.

Ted Dumitru

Duration: 2003-05

Enjoyed a successful second spell at Naturena having been there before in the 80s.

The late Romanian won two back-to-back league titles, as well as the two consecutive Coca-Cola Cup trophies before leaving.

Ernst Middendorp

Duration: 200-07

Came with a high pedigree, but dismantled a championship-winning team.

Even then, he was still able to clinch the 2006 SAA Super Eight.

His second stint from 2018 to 2020 was better, as the German came very close to the topflight title until the final day.

Sacked a few weeks later.

Vladimir Vermezovic

Duration: 2009-12

Was relatively unknown when he took over, but soon impressed with his approach and style of play, which won him back-to-back Telkom Knockout titles.

Stuart Baxter

Duration: 2012-15

He won two league titles, the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup in the three years he was at Naturena before resigning and leaving for Turkey.
