Microsoft Already Working On New Xbox Chip?

Reports are claiming that Microsoft has already begun working on a new, improved chip for the Xbox Series X console.

The next-generation Xbox may still be fairly new in the market, but the push to improve efficiency, and costs, is already underway.

Typically, new console launches can be fairly expensive with the need to use the most advanced tech possible to meet the performance targets.

However, Gamespot reports that a smaller, more power-efficient Xbox chip is reportedly being worked on, and quotes journalist Brad Sams as saying, "I believe this is true - I know that Microsoft was working on revisions of the chip."

"Now, are we going to see performance improvements, are we going to see anything else? I do not believe so but Microsoft is always working on making cooler, more efficient chips because that lowers the cost of production. I believe it is accurate that Microsoft is working on a smaller, more power-efficient chip. That is, I'm very confident in that."

Looking back at the previous generation, both Sony and Microsoft offered various versions of their respective consoles, some being smaller in size and offering the same type of performance, while also launching upgraded consoles later in the generation lifespan.

PlayStation 4 Pro and the Xbox One S offered better performance to handle the demands of more demanding games at the end of the generation, and it remains to be seen if this is a strategy that will continue with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
