The Premier Soccer League has confirmed it's received a request from Mamelodi Sundowns regarding the next registration period.
With the second transfer window of the 2020/21 season scheduled for February 1 until March 1, the reigning DStv Premiership champions have asked the league to bring the date forward to be in line with the CAF Champions League deadline.
Downs are hopeful of progressing to the group stages of the interclub competition where they will then be allowed to add more players by January 31.
But the Brazilians have argued that if the two deadlines clash, then the South African teams campaigning in CAF tournaments will be at a disadvantage.
"The decision goes beyond the league – it goes to FIFA," explained PSL acting CEO Mato Madlala to the Siya crew.
"The registration window is a FIFA window once it has been inserted into the TMS (transfer matching system) and FIFA has been notified of our registration period. Our window period currently is the way we advised FIFA, so yes Sundowns have written to the league and it is a process that we are investigating."
Downs begin their Champions League campaign against Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana a few days before Christmas and should they win their two-legged tie they will qualify for the group stages of the competition.
Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Bloemfontein Celtic are the other PSL clubs involved in interclub tournaments this season.
