Round 25 of the GladAfrica Championship produced two goalless draws with highflyers, Uthongathi FC and JDR Stars, unable to break the deadlock, while lowly Royal Eagles did well by holding Free State Stars. However, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) grabbed all three points on offer by beating lowly Jomo Cosmos 2-1 - to grab second spot!
Both the Cane Cutters and the Hammer Boys missed first-half chances at the Randburg Rugby Stadium, especially from free kicks that went well over the crossbar and between the rugby posts. Neither goalkeeper was called upon to make any real saves.
This pattern continued into the second period but during a dramatic few minutes, an official first denied Stars' Moeketsi Makhanya a goal before his team mate, Thabang Mokoena, put a penalty wide.
Thanks to Modibedi Mokoena and Thembisani Nevhulamba, TTM bounced back from a 1-0 deficit to leave Cosmos in the lurch.
Eagles' valuable point means that the KZN outfit are a mere three behind Ezenkosi.
On Wednesday, Swallows FC has an opportunity to overtake TTM when they face TS Sporting.
