Thamsanqa Gabuza Among World's 25 Best Goalscorers In 2015

The International Federation of Football History Statistics (IFFHS) is based in Europe and compiles a list of the world's top goalscorers each year.

Unlike other more well-known rankings, the IFFHS only look at goals scored for national teams and in continental club competitions such as the UEFA Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup.

Buccaneers striker Gabuza is one of seven Africans on the list, and is one of only two players plying their trade in Africa.

He is actually the joint-highest African goalscorer with 10 goals – four for Bafana Bafana and six during Pirates' run to the CAF Confederation Cup final.

Porto's Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar and TP Mazembe's Tanzanian forward Mbwana Samatta also scored 10 goals for their national teams and in continental club competitions.

Gabuza appears in 22nd on the list, just two goals behind Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

FC Bayern Munich and Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has replaced Cristiano Ronaldo as the top marksman in 2015, having scored 22 goals for club and country.

He is followed by Al Ahli Dubai's Ahmed Khalil, who scored 20 goals in 2015, and Ronaldo with 19 goals.

Gabuza, who was also among the initial nominees for the CAF Best African-Based Player of the Year, has outscored stars such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gonzalo Higuain (both nine goals), as well as Alexis Sanchez and Asamoah Gyan (eight goals each).
