Matlaba has opened a case of attempted murder with the South African Police Service (SAPS) after he survived a shooting incident, as reported on the Soccer Laduma website on Monday.

The SAPS confirmed to the Siya crew that the Bafana Bafana defender was involved in a shooting incident in Tembisa in the early hours of Sunday morning, March 5.

The shooting incident left one person hospitalised. Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesman, Captain Mofana Masela, confirmed that Matlaba has opened a case with them, following the incident.

The Siya crew has been informed that unidentified individuals allegedly fired a firearm in Matlaba's direction. An unidentified individual was allegedly harmed in the incident and, while Matlaba was not physically injured, his car was struck.

Speaking to the Siya crew in edition 1014 of the Soccer Laduma newspaper, Matlaba's agent Abbie Rasimphi confirmed that the Tembisa-born player went for counselling after the incident, as he was evidently shaken by what transpired.

"It was Thabo and people from Uber that were attacked. All of them were attacked at the same time. All of them were victims. Thabo was a victim and so were the other people from Uber.

"It (Thabo's car) was damaged but they are busy with it (fixing it). Thabo is fine. We took him to the professionals and they tried to counsel him. We hired professionals to counsel him because he was shaken," said Rasimphi.
