SuperSport United's CEO, Stan Matthews, says that Matsatsantsa couldn't justify offering Daine Klate the wage that he was being offered elsewhere in the Absa Premiership.
The Siya crew explained earlier today that the 30-year-old was on the verge of signing for SuperSport United on a long-term basis, however it was announced this evening that talks between the two parties had broken down.
Now, with the player expected to complete a move to Bidvest Wits in the near future, Matthews says that SuperSport had 'every intention' of keeping Klate in Tshwane.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Matthews said, "We had every intention of keeping Daine at the club. We were open with him from the start, and said that if he felt he had a mouth-watering offer elsewhere, then we wouldn't break our wage structure to keep him here.
"We offered him our best deal but couldn't justify matching the offer he was getting from elsewhere. We wish him the best go forward."
It is thought that Wits came in with a late offer to Klate that was too good for him to turn down, something that prompted him to decide against taking SuperSport's offer.
