Stellenbosch FC veteran Lee Langeveldt has revealed what he said to teenage star Oswin Andries, following his costly error against Kaizer Chiefs.
Stellies looked to be on their way to a victory in the MTN8 fixture against Chiefs with a 1-0 lead in the second half, only for a miscommunication between Andries and the experienced goalkeeper, which saw former Stellies poster boy Ashley Du Preez profit and slot into an empty net.
Chiefs then went on to book their spot in the semifinal of the competition.
Speaking to the Siya crew at the Carling Black Label Cup launch, Langeveldt opened up on the conversation he had with the 19-year-old starlet.
"Well, what nobody knows is that he actually asked for the ball, so I said, 'don't worry, its my mistake. I should have cleared the ball in the first place. I take the blame, don't you worry. Carry on with your game', and he appreciated it because everyone was looking at him. But he is mature, even the game against Richards Bay when he played, [he had] a quality game and I'm sure it will continue like that," he explained.
Langeveldt also spoke glowingly about Andries' progress in the Stellenbosch first team, that has seen him feature in six games in all competitions this season.
"The thing is, these boys train with us so it becomes easier for them to take the next step up. He played a major role in the Next Gen tournament and a major role in the DDC - winning the league and he is a midfielder. But the maturity of the boy even with what happened in the game against Chiefs, he made a mistake but he carried on and was still calm on the ball. It's what I like about him, he's very calm, mature. He's not a big talker but the way he reads the game, top class," he said.
