The Five-a-side World Championship was hosted at Fives Futbol at Century City in Cape Town last weekend.

The Mzansi men's team beat Colombia 5-2 in the final, while the women's side beat China 3-2.

"The SA womens and mens Five-a-side teams put on a dominant display at the Five-a-side World Championship this past weekend hosted at Fives Futbol, Century City, Cape Town. The men's team celebrated a 5-2 victory over a very strong Colombian team in a nail biting final. While the SA women's team had a home soil Championship victory by beating the Chinese women's team 3-2 in extra time," confirmed the organisers, in a statement.

Adam Fine, CEO of Fives Futbol, added, "It was fantastic to watch our local Fives' teams put on such an impressive display over the weekend and each walk home with deserving wins. The level of talent globally in this tournament is at an all-time high, which really puts into perspective the impressive victories by the SA teams. I am such an advocate of the sport, and it has been incredible to watch the SA talent and development over the past few years."

As confirmed by the organisers, this year's championship kicked off at the beginning of the year with over 150 000 players competing in knock out games from 27 countries in a six-month long qualifying campaign.

27 teams from across the world headed to the Mother City for the finals. South Africa was announced as hosts of the 6th annual Five-a-side World Championship for the second consecutive year.
