Former Bafana Bafana international and SuperSport United goalkeeper, Rowen Fernandez, has told the Siya crew that Ronwen Williams is feeling no ill-affects following his nightmare debut in goal for Bafana Bafana.
The 22-year-old was given very little protection against a rampant Brazil outfit, with the likes of Neymar and Hulk being virtually given the freedom of FNB Stadium to run riot.
The talented Williams was deputising for the injured Itumeleng Khune and made his official debut for the national team. However, he was exposed time and again in one-on-one situations as Bafana's back four found themselves at sixes and sevens.
Some may have been fearing that such a nighmarish debut could have hurt the young keeper, and that his confidence might have been shattered by such an experience.
Yet, according to Fernandez, it seems the Port Elizabeth-born star is reacting with a strong positive attitude to the pounding he receieved at the hands of the five-time world champions.
The veteran shot-stopper said of Williams, "I think he did okay in the game. It's just unfortunate he came up against some of the best players in the world. He was left exposed a few times but there were a couple of one-on-ones with Neymar that he saved and did well. Don't forget he's only 22 and has a long way to go still. Look, he's fine, man. He was back in training and was all smiles again. He's good and is back on the wagon. He has to forget about Brazil and the 5-0, and focus on the next game for SuperSport, you know."
