Venue: Umhlathuze Sports Stadium
Chippa United moved closer to securing their top-flight status after drawing 1-1 with Richards Bay FC in the PSL promotional/relegation play-offs on Saturday afternoon.
Chippa named Bienvenu Eva Nga up front and also included Nyiko Mobbie, Maloisane Mokhele as well as Isaac Nhlapo amongst others whilst Siyabonga Vilane picked out the stall from Richards Bay.
Somila Ntsundwana came close to hand Richards the lead with an instinctive header in the six-yard area following a quiet opening from a ball on the right-side, but goalkeeper Rashid Watenga saved.
The Chilli Boys at the other end responded with a threat of their own through a low rasping shot from Mokhele; however it was no trouble to goalkeeper Malcolm Jacobs.
Chippa opeted for a change at the break in Kurt Lentjies for Thamsanqa Sangweni, and the host also made a substitution in Paseka Sekese in favour of Nzuzo Mkhize.
The Chilli Boys snatched the lead ten minutes from the restart after a cutback from Mokhele following good work from Nga granted Peter Maloisane to beat Jacobs from close-range.
Khanyisa Mayo looked to draw the host level midway in the second half through a low first-time strike outside the area from a ball by Ntsundwana, but Watenga was well alerted.
Richards Bay were rewarded after 73 minutes when Vilane rose at the near post to meet a telling delivery from Ntsundwana for his second goal against Chippa.
Substitute Augustine Kwem should've put Chippa back in front with a clear-cut opportunity in the area late on, but he dragged wide as it ended 1-1 which keeps the Chilli Boys top of the play-off standings.
