Gavin Hunt's side move up to fourth on the Absa Premiership table after the win, while Craig Rosslee's men drop down to fifth. Calvin Kadi had the first chance of the game after after just five minutes but the striker fired horribly wide from close range. The visitors found the back of the net in the 16th minute through Sthembiso Ngcobo, the former AmaZulu striker's looping header managed to sneak it's way into the net for his second of the season. Thamsanqa Teyise went for the spectacular in the 25th minute but the midfielder skied his effort well wide of the target. Sibusiso Vilakazi squandered a great chance to double Wits' lead in the 37th minute, but the midfielder fired over from six-yards out after some good build-up play from the visitors. The hosts struggled to create any clear cut openings in the first half, S'fiso Hlanti came the closest for Usuthu just before the halftime break with a free kick for 25-yards that flew just over the Denis Onyango's bar. Jabulani Shongwe could have doubled Wits' lead in the 49th minute but the midfielder failed to hit target from close range after Ngcobo's flick on. Siboniso Gumede came close to doubling the visitor's advantage in the 56th minute with a scuffed left-footed effort that went inches wide of the right-hand post. Dennis Onyango nearly gifted AmaZulu an equaliser in the 73rd minute, the Wits' number one misjudge a long ball but Nkosinathi Mthiyane failed to direct his header on goal, saving Onyango from further embarrassment. Tshepo Liphoko tried his luck from range in the 76th minute, the substitute played a good one-two with Mthiyane before horribly firing his effort high and wide. Hlanti tried his luck again with a free kick from 20-yards out in the 83rd minute, but it was a carbon copy of his first effort that failed to trouble Onyango. The visitors took their foot off the pedal in the closing stages and comfortably saw out the rest of the match.
