Several weeks after concluding talks over a new deal for club captain Thami Mkhize, Cape Town City have tied down another key player.
Defender Thami Mkhize put pen to paper on a two-year contract, which was announced earlier this month, and now Thato Mokeke has done the same.
The former SuperSport United utility player was approaching the end of his initial agreement with City on June 30 and had been in discussions with the side coached by Eric Tinkler over his future for a few weeks now.
"It took a while, but it's done now. He has signed a two-year contract and this is important for Cape Town City to keep a player like Thato," said a source privy to player movements within the Citizen camp.
The club has since confirmed the news on their social media channels:
— Cape Town City FC (@CapeTownCityFC) February 23, 2022Mokeke has featured in 20 of the club's domestic matches so far in this campaign and is obviously a key player for Tinkler.
The news will come as a boost given that the Mother City outfit had been viewed as a selling team of late – letting go of Fagrie Lakay and Surprise Ralani, who joined Egyptian side Pyramids and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.
It must be noted the club did bring in a few new faces, especially from out of the country, but it is going to take a bit of time before they start showing their true worth.
