Jonathan Felippe The First Argentine At Kaizer Chiefs

Jonathan Felippe The First Argentine At Kaizer Chiefs

With Kaizer Chiefs set to secure the signature of Argentinian striker Jonathan Philippe, the 29-year-old would become the first player from his country to don the gold and black jersey in history.

Weekly Chiefs Transfer Wrap

Philippe has been training with the team since Tuesday, but his signing has yet to be confirmed by the club and it is believed that a deal has been agreed to in principle. However, even though he is the first Argentine to join the club, they are not unfamiliar with South Americans, with Venezuela's Gustavo Paez, who will look to form a partnership up front with Philippe, and Jose Torrealba both spending time on the books at the club.

Furthermore, Philippe is not the only Argentine to play in South Africa in the PSL era, with former Mpumalanga Black Aces and AmaZulu goalkeeper, Nick Gindre, and former Mamelodi Sundowns striker, Vicente Principiano, having flown the flag for their country in the top tier. Gindre, however, made just nine league appearances during his time in South Africa, while Principiano spending just one year on the books at Sundowns.

Who Are Kaizer Chiefs' New Faces?

Other South Americans to have graced South Africa include the likes of Brazil's Eduardo Ferreira (Mamelodi Sundowns), Mario Varas (Orlando Pirates and Chile), Augusto Palacios (Manning Rangers, AmaZulu, Witbank Spurs and Peru), Elton Morelato (Moroka Swallows), Davi Rancan (Moroka Swallows) and Ricardo Nascimento (Sundowns), while Jorge Acuna (Sundowns) has been Chile's sole representative and Leonardo Castro (Sundowns) is Colombia's only export and Rafael Dudamel (Sundowns) joins Paez and Torrealba as one of the Venezuelans to have played in Mzansi in the PSL era.

Who do you think was the best South American to have played in South Africa?
