The 18-year-old Kekana showcased his talents among the DDC players in the All Star team, leaving a strong impression during their victory over Magesi FC on December 21 at Orlando Stadium. Soon, he will have the opportunity to play alongside his idols, such as Teboho Mokoena and Bathusi Aubaas, in the Sundowns midfield.
Insiders at the club have indicated that Kekana's promotion to the senior team had been anticipated even before the Carling Black Label Cup, and now his dreams are gradually becoming a reality.
"You remember the boy who played alongside Bathusi Aubaas and Samkelo Zwane in the Carling Black Label All Stars team? The one who was wearing jersey number 8? Yes, Gomolemo Kekana. Sundowns are set to promote him to the senior team. They have already offered him a senior team contract. He is very good. He can actually easily slot into the first team and that's why the technical team has been monitoring him. Even before the Carling Black Label Cup game against Magesi FC he was on the team's radar for promotion. It was just a coincidence that he played very well in that game and the team is offering him a senior team contract now. It was already in their plans long before that game," the Siya source stated.
A second insider mentioned to Soccer Laduma that Kekana is expected to provide backup to both Aubaas and Mokoena, if required.
Kekana has been a vital asset to the Sundowns DDC team, earning him a call-up to the national Under-17 team, where he has collected caps so far.
