Kekana To Earn Surprising Sundowns First Team Call-up?

Kekana To Earn Surprising Sundowns First Team Call-up?

After impressing many football enthusiasts with his outstanding performance for the Carling All Star team against Magesi FC, Mamelodi Sundowns' DDC youngster Gomolemo Kekana finds himself on the brink of a significant career move.

The senior Brazilians team is now believed to be offering him a spot on the first team following his stellar display.

The 18-year-old Kekana showcased his talents among the DDC players in the All Star team, leaving a strong impression during their victory over Magesi FC on December 21 at Orlando Stadium. Soon, he will have the opportunity to play alongside his idols, such as Teboho Mokoena and Bathusi Aubaas, in the Sundowns midfield.

Insiders at the club have indicated that Kekana's promotion to the senior team had been anticipated even before the Carling Black Label Cup, and now his dreams are gradually becoming a reality.

"You remember the boy who played alongside Bathusi Aubaas and Samkelo Zwane in the Carling Black Label All Stars team? The one who was wearing jersey number 8? Yes, Gomolemo Kekana. Sundowns are set to promote him to the senior team. They have already offered him a senior team contract. He is very good. He can actually easily slot into the first team and that's why the technical team has been monitoring him. Even before the Carling Black Label Cup game against Magesi FC he was on the team's radar for promotion. It was just a coincidence that he played very well in that game and the team is offering him a senior team contract now. It was already in their plans long before that game," the Siya source stated.

A second insider mentioned to Soccer Laduma that Kekana is expected to provide backup to both Aubaas and Mokoena, if required.

"Despite him being so skilful he is actually a defensive midfielder. And you know the senior team has only Tebza (Teboho Mokoena) and Bathusi in that department and that's the other reason why they need him in the senior team so that in the event that both or even one is not available he can be considered for game time and that will also help him grow. So, then offering him a senior contract and promotion is good for both the club and the player. It's so beneficiary to the club actually as they are building a strong team for the future with young stars like Mali (Malibongwe Khoza), Siyabonga Mabena and Kutlwano Letlhaku among others," the second insider observed.

Kekana has been a vital asset to the Sundowns DDC team, earning him a call-up to the national Under-17 team, where he has collected caps so far.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
