Shikabala Successor! ‘Somebody Said I Said Maswanganyi Was Better’

Farouk Khan has weighed in on the Patrick 'Tito' Maswanganyi and Themba 'Shikabala' Zwane comparison following Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos' recent comments.

Having named Maswanganyi in his 23-man Bafana squad for the upcoming two international friendly matches against Andorra and Algeria, Broos suggested that the Orlando Pirates midfielder can be a replacement for Zwane in the national team.

Broos' comments opened debate, and Khan who has been there when it all started for Maswanganyi in football as a youngster to where he is now, has explained why there should be no comparison on the two players.

"Maswanganyi came to us at a very young age, and he spent a number of years with Stars of Africa Academy. He was a very quiet individual, he didn't say much, and he just did his talking with his feet. But he had something special, he had that exclusivity, creativity and the skill that you see now and the decision-making that you see. All we did was we just moulded that and sort of push it in the right direction and today we are glad that the young man has turned out to be the player that's going to make a huge difference in South African football," said Khan, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

"With all due respect, I think Themba Zwane is brilliant and I'm not going to compare him to Maswanganyi. I think somebody said I said he (Maswanganyi) was better than Themba Zwane. I think Themba Zwane is a different player. Maswanganyi is more of a box-to-box player and Themba is more of a playmaker type of a player who can make other players look good and create goal scoring opportunities and be a good goal scorer. I think Themba has had a fantastic season," the coach said.
