Former Free State Stars defender, Zakia Makoanyane, says he is better off with his current job than playing football.
The former tough-tackling player had a spell with Ea Lla Koto during the reign of Kinnah Phiri, alongside the likes of Diyo Sibisi, Thulasizwe Mbuyane, Duncan Lechesa and Prince Olomu. But he never really enjoyed regular game time and was released in 2008, after which he went to join African Warriors in the National First Division.
However, his time at the club was short-lived and, having only spent one season there, he was released and decided to retire from the game altogether.
In a chat with the Siya crew, Makoanyane said, "I'm working in the mines at Sasol in Secunda nowadays and I have no stress at all. Football is a lot of stress. A new coach comes in and says you're not in the plans. At African Warriors we used to get paid late. Here I'm working okay and on weekends I go and play football, as we have a league. I then decided that I'll start from downwards and work my way up."
