The defender played for Chippa, before signing a long-term deal with Pirates in January.
According to sources close to Chippa, the club has lined up Mvelase as one of the targets for the transfer window.
"Chippa United are interested in signing Mpho Mvelase from Orlando Pirates. They are interested in signing him on loan," said the source.
Mvelase has been frustrated with lack of game-time at Bucs, since joining the side. The right back made a single appearance for the side in their 2014/15 Absa Premiership campaign.
The Chilli Boys have a good relationship with Bucs. The Port Elizabeth-based side had Manti Moholo and Siyabonga Zulu on loan from Pirates this past season.
The club has a few other former Pirates players on its books, including William Twala, Joseph Molangoane and Bheki Nzunga.
