Calvin Marlin – the interim coach of Ajax Cape Town – is backed to lead the Mother City outfit back to the top tier of South African football.
Following the resignation of Dutch coach Andries Ulderink in January from the head coach role he held at the Ikamva-based outfit, Marlin was handed the task of guiding the side in their attempt of returning to the Absa Premiership.
During his time as the coach of Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2015, Jacob Sakala had Marlin as his assistant in the AmaZayoni technical team bench when the former goalkeeper's coaching career started, before he officially retired from playing professional football at the end of the 2014/15 season.
"I made Calvin Marlin to be what he is today (in coaching). He was a goalkeeper and I promoted him to be an assistant. We still communicate and he appreciates what I did for him," Sakala told the Siya crew.
The Urban Warriors were at the top of the GladAfrica Championship standings with a seven-point lead from second-placed Swallows FC with six matches remaining for the 2019/19 season, before the PSL was forced into a break by the Coronavirus pandemic.
"He (Marlin) will make it (in leading Ajax to promotion), and I have no doubt about that. He is a good coach and I noticed that long ago, from when I worked with him," said Sakala.
