The centre-back has penned a three-year deal with Usuthu, having impressed with his fine performances for the NFD outfit.

"It's a dream come true to join AmaZulu Football Club since my father's brother (Sgwili Gumede) also played for AmaZulu. I was aware the club had an interest since last season when we used to play in friendly matches," Gumede told AmaZulu's official website.

AmaZulu confirmed that coach Joey Antipas and his technical team have also been assessing Phumlani's twin, Philani Gumede.

"The 23-year-old Pietermaritzburg-born (player) played an instrumental role in the quick ascension of the club formerly based in Hammersdale alongside his twin brother Philani Gumede. Both twins have been training with Usuthu for a full week," the club stated.
