The first clear chance fell for the Team of Choice in the 14th minute but City goalkeeper Sage Stephens made a great save to deny Lebohang Maboe at close range.

Andrea Fileccia broke the deadlock in the 28th minute for United with a finish at the back post following a cross from Fortune Makaringe.

Roland Putsche almost got the equaliser for Benni McCarthy's charges in the 35th minute with a stinging low shot from just inside the box but United goalkeeper Richard Ofori made a good save.

The closing minutes of the first stanza were enterprising but no goals were forthcoming as the hosts went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The Team of Choice were more in control of the match in the opening 10 minutes of the second half and they looked likelier to get the next goal.

However, the tempo of the game slowed down towards the 65th minute, as the clear-cut chances were drying up.

Kenyan striker Mosoud Juma should have equalised for the Citizens in the 67th minute after going clear on the left side of the box but United shot-stopper Ofori was able to make a fine point-blank save.

Craig Martin was unlucky not to have found the net for City 15 minutes before time as his header at the back post hit the bottom of the woodwork following a cross.

Juma eventually netted the equaliser for the Citizens in the second minute of stoppage time with a fierce strike into the top corner after a loose ball fell into his path inside the box following a free-kick, 1-1.
