Absa Premiership
Full Time: Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 Bloemfontein Celtic
Date: 04 May 2016
Venue: FNB Stadium
Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic played to a goalless stalemate in an Absa Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was a rather disappointing opening half with both teams unimaginative in attack which resulted in them taking shots from long range, and ineffectively so.
The first effort on goal came in the fifth minute courtesy of William Twala, but the Chiefs man saw his 30-yard shot go wide of the target.
Celtic's first significant shot on goal came in the 18th minute, but Dumisani Zuma fired over the crossbar from the edge of the box.
The best chance of the opening half fell to Erick Mathoho in the 31st minute when a Siphiwe Tshabalala free-kick into the box was headed into his path by Morgan Gould, but the defender fired over from close range.
Two minutes later Celtic were gifted a great chance to open the scoring when a mistake by Keegan Ritchie allowed Thapelo Morena to drive into the box, but he dragged his 14-yard shot inches wide of the target.
Chiefs applied pressure in the final 15 minutes of the first stanza, but could not break the deadlock as the half ended 0-0.
Ten minutes into the second half Tshabalala had a golden chance to score for Chiefs when he found himself in space on the edge of the box, but with just the keeper to beat he pulled his shot wide.
Lyle Lakay caused some problems for the Chiefs defence in the 68th minute when he worked himself into space 22-yards out, but saw his stinging effort well-saved by Itumeleng Khune.
Substitute George Maluleka almost won the game for Chiefs in the 87th minute, but he saw his 24-yard thunderbolt go desperately wide of the target.
The match ended all-square.
