Khune, who started his first game since August in the 2-1 win over Township Rollers this weekend, didn’t regain the armband on his first start of 2015, with Mashamaite retaining it.
"Masha" scored a late winner for Chiefs this weekend, and has been the Amakhosi’s stand-in captain ever since Khune picked up his ankle injury last year, and it seems that it was agreed that the centre back would keep hold of it for the time being.
It is thought that Khune will only take back the armband when he has permanently won back his place as the club’s number one goalkeeper, something that may not transpire just yet.
It will now be interesting to see whether Khune plays a second consecutive game against SuperSport United this week, or whether this season’s regular ‘keeper, Brilliant Khuzwayo, is back between the sticks for Chiefs’ next PSL game.
