Following Mamelodi Sundowns’ defeat to Bidvest Wits last night, Kaizer Chiefs need just 21 points from 10 games to guarantee themselves the PSL title.
Both Wits and Sundowns, who now occupy second and third spot respectively, can only reach a final tally of 67 points this season should they win all their games, while the Amakhosi can hit 77 at best.
While it is unlikely that any of the three teams will win every game between now and the end of the season, the Clever Boys do find themselves on an eight-game unbeaten run and within seven points of the log leaders.
Chiefs’ head coach, Stuart Baxter, will know that his side are within touching distance of another PSL title, and that if they can pick up 21 points from the remaining 10, they are guaranteed to win the league irrespective of how well Wits and Masandawana do between now and May.

Baxter’s side take on Ajax Cape Town tonight, a side that hasn’t beaten them in Gauteng since 2007, and can regain a 10-point lead at the top of the table if they overcome Roger de Sa and his players.
