With reports suggesting FC Barcelona's move for their main striker target has broken down, the Catalan club have now identified a new target with just two days of the January transfer window left.
Valencia forward Rodrigo appeared close to a move to the Blaugrana on Tuesday, after there was said to be a breakthrough in the negotiations between Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United over Bruno Fernandes.
The Portugal midfielder was reportedly being readied by the Blaugrana, and would have then joined Valencia on loan until the end of the season, with Rodrigo going the other way.
The 25-year-old Fernandes now appears close to joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United, leading ESPN to believe Rodrigo will not be joining the Spanish giants in this window.
Marca now reports that in response to the deal falling through, Barcelona have turned their attentions to Ajax Amsterdam forward Dusan Tadic, who has been one of Europe's most lethal players since his return to the Eredivisie in 2018.
With the January window slamming shut this Friday, the club will have to move quickly to sign the Serbian, though Ajax are unlikely to let him leave halfway through the season.
Tadic has been in remarkable form for the Dutch champions this season, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further 21 strikes in 33 matches across all competitions.
Overall for the club, the 31-year-old has contributed to 95 goals in 89 matches for Ajax.
