Mamelodi Sundowns recently gave a glimpse into their pre-season preparations and we noticed a few changes for the defending DStv Premiership champions.

Sundowns began their pre-season preparations over a week later than the rest of their counterparts, having enjoyed a much longer 2022/23 season thanks to their CAF Champions League exploits.

But the Rulani Mokwena-led side are back at their Chloorkop base, although with a slightly altered look.

In addition to the departure of assistant coach Steve Komphela to Swallows FC, here are some changes we noticed inside the club.

Returnees

Sammy Seabi, Jody February and Divine Lunga have all returned to the club having spent the season out on loan to Sekhukhune United, AmaZulu and Golden Arrows respectively. It is unclear whether the trio will form part of the club's plans in the current campaign or if they will be shipped out again.

Mweene occupying a dual role

It has been in the making since last season, where Kennedy Mweene has started making progression towards forming part of the club's technical team. While it hasn't officially been announced, Mweene can be seen occupying a dual player/coach role.

Michael Loftman more hands on

Michael Loftman, who was roped in as a set-play coach in February this year, has seemingly taken on a more hands-on role at the club and could possibly fill the void left by Komphela. The UEFA-A License holder is one of the country's most promising young coaches and has a close working relationship with head coach Rulani Mokwena, the Siya Crew understands.

New goalkeeper in the fold

With Mweene taking on a new role, Sundowns have roped in young Sizwe Ramabulane to the first team, adding to the club's goalkeepers of Ronwen Williams, Denis Onyango, Riyaad Pieterse and Jody February.

New players fully integrated

The club has announced three new signings, all of whom have already started training with their new teammates. Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Lesiba Nku and Junior Mendieta can be seen going through their paces under the watchful eye of the club's technical team.
