Romelu Lukaku: I'll Never Forgive Andre Villas-Boas

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku, who missed out on Chelsea's UEFA Champions League triumph in 2012 because he was not named in the Blues' European squad, has admitted he will never forgive Andre Villas-Boas for leaving him out.

The London club lifted the Champions League trophy after a dramatic win over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, but Lukaku, who had joined the Blues at the beginning of that campaign, did not receive a medal as there was no place for him in Chelsea's European squad that season.

Villas-Boas was fired in March 2012 following a poor run of form in the Premier League, with former player Roberto Di Matteo taking over as interim manager for the remainder of the campaign.

In a recent interview, Lukaku revealed that Di Matteo allowed him and some other players who were not in the squad to be around to celebrate the club's success, and admitted that he still holds a grudge against Villas-Boas.

"He thought everyone should come along, including the ones who were suspended and the few boys who were not in the Champions League squad.

"I am also grateful to him for that. This win is one of the things I've always dreamed about.

"You want to celebrate something like that with the team at that time. That is nice in itself at the age of 19.

"I am happy for the whole club, but there is one man who took a lot from me: the previous trainer (Villas-Boas). I will never forgive him for that."

Lukaku played just 12 senior matches for Chelsea that season, after playing regularly the campaign before at Anderlecht in Belgium.
