Orlando Pirates fans that have been wishing to see Kermit Erasmus with their team for the last time, in this weekend’s Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs, will be disappointed to hear that the player won’t be available to play for the side anymore.
Erasmus has been expected to be one of the key players for Pirates against their perennial rivals in their battle for three points this Saturday.
However, with the striker having signed for Stade Rennais FC in France, he is no longer eligible to turn out for Pirates this weekend.
Erasmus, 25, penned a two-and-a-half year deal with Rennais, as confirmed by the French Ligue 1 side.
Pirates’ assistant coach, Teboho Moloi, confirmed to the Siya crew that the technical team is preparing for the Soweto Derby without Erasmus in their plans.
“It is unfortunate that Kermit won’t play for us in this weekend’s Soweto Derby, because he has been one of the team’s star players. But we do have the players that will rise to the occasion tomorrow.
“In the past, we had star players that left the team to further their careers elsewhere. But we continued producing players that delivered for the team. Tomorrow will be no different,” said Moloi.
Moloi has assured the Pirates fans that the preparations for the eagerly-awaited game have been going well.
