Full Time: Moroka Swallows 0-1 Bidvest Wits
Date: 4 December 2013
Venue: Dobsonville Stadium
A single goal from Bidvest Wits captain, Sibusiso Vilakazi, saw the Clever Boys beat Moroka Swallows 1-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday.
The opening 45 minutes saw the home side controlling the possession stakes, but they were unable take advantage of their dominance and instead entered the half time break a goal down.
The Birds were on the attack early on with Edward Manqele firing the first shot in anger in the fourth minute, but his effort went narrowly wide of the target.
Four minutes later and Swallows got their first shot on goal through Dikgang Mabalane, but Moneeb Josephs made a comfortable save
Josephs had to work a little harder in the 13th minute when he was at full stretch to make a fingertip save to deny Manqele.
Ten minutes later, very much against the run of play, Sibusiso Vilakazi gave Wits the lead, tucking home a Getaneh Kebede pass, 1-0.
The goal didn’t discourage Swallows, however, and they continued to press forward in attack.
In the 36th minute Manqele saw his initial shot blocked by a Wits defender, but the rebound fell to Siyabonga Nomvethe who unleashed another powerful shot. The strikers effort, though, was well-saved by Josephs.
Wits did have the last say of the half as Matthew Pattison let rip with a stinging shot that went inches wide of the post seconds before the break.
At the start of the second 45 saw Swallows continue with their forward pressure as Giorgi Nergadze tried his luck from long range three minutes in, but his effort went wide.
In the 53rd minute the Wits goal was under attack again as Josephs had to turn an Nkosinathi Ogle free-kick away from goal with a diving save.
Swallows continued to dominate the possession stakes, but Wits held firm in defence and walked away with the three points.
With the result Wits moved up to third on the league table.
