Kaizer Chiefs coach, Steve Komphela, has admitted that he would like to see his strike pair of Camaldine Abraw and Edward Manqele brush up on their finishing.
Komphela is still in the process of testing out a number of attacking options and combinations at Chiefs and has started the striking duo up front in the Amakhosi’s last two games.
The pair were impressive in open play during the 1-1 draw with Ajax Cape Town in the league and the 3-0 win over Platinum Stars in the Telkom Knockout. Manqele scored the goal in the Ajax game but the duo struggled to find clear-cut opportunities and finish them off against Stars.
“It’s true we are happy with the Abraw and Manqele combination so far as one can be a number nine while the other one can come from the midfield and pull defenders off the top strikers, and that’s the same thing that Parker and Mthembu can do,” Komphela told Soccer Laduma.
“Every striker has different strengths and we use them differently according to their strengths and understanding of each other.
“I worked with Edward and Abraw at Free State Stars, but they both have their own strengths. We just have to work on their finishing at the moment and then everything will be okay.
“They can both take on defenders and score goals, but we can’t stop working on improving their finishing because it’s crucial that they finish off as many chances they create as possible.”
Komphela and his charges will go in search of only their third league win against Jomo Cosmos tonight.
