Chiefs Target Considering Early Retirement
He may have attracted some interest from Kaizer Chiefs, however, Bidvest Wits’ Papy Faty is said to be considering the possibility of retirement.
The Siya crew reported in today’s issue of Soccer Laduma that the 25-year-old Burundian international had made it onto the Amakhosi’s list of potential targets for the new season, but it appears that he may not be an option at all.
Faty had a tough 2015/16 season after he collapsed during a training game while playing for the Clever Boys in December, before the same happened again shortly after his return to the field while playing an Absa Premiership game in April.
The talented midfield man hasn’t played for Wits since then, and there had been talk that the club could look to release him if they got no assurances over his well being going forward.
Now, regarding Chiefs’ interest, a source said, “They still want at least one more midfielder and from the football department meetings, Faty’s name has been put forward. I don’t think he will come cheap and if they want him they have to be ready to spend. He is different to the players which the team has already signed.”
However, the latest news reaching the crew is that due to his health problems – which are yet to be made public – Faty may have to consider hanging up his boots for good ahead of the new season anyway.
