Orlando Pirates midfielder Lehlogonolo Masalesa was named Man of the Match for his sturdy performance in their 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
Masalesa was given his chance to shine with Andile Jali out injured for the MTN8 semi-final first-leg and the midfielder grabbed his chance with both hands by putting in a good shift.
The player was delighted to scoop the award in his first derby and says that he was proud of the effort from the whole team.
"I think it's up to my teammates. It's my first derby and they helped me through a lot. The most important thing is the result and I think we got the right result. We have our noses in front going into the second-leg," he said.
"And if we don't do too many mistakes in the next leg, then we stand a good chance of reaching the final - which is the most important thing.
"Individuals will win football matches, but you win championships through team work. Today was a good example of team work and I'm really proud of my teammates.
"I'm a football player and that's what I get paid for. So every time I get an opportunity to be on the field, I'll give it my all. I know I won't always be named Man of the Match, but I'll always do my best."
