Kaizer Chiefs are monitoring Maritzburg United midfielder, Deolin Mekoa, with the view of adding him to their squad, according to Siya reports.

The Amakhosi are specifically looking to bolster their squad’s central midfield. With Reneilwe Letsholonyane yet to commit his future to the club beyond the current season, the club is looking at possible replacements should the veteran decide to leave the Glamour Boys.

Last week the Siya team reported that Chippa United’s Thamsanqa Sangweni is an option for coach Steve Komphela and, now sources have indicated that the club has not lost interest in Maritzburg midfielder and U23 South African international, Mekoa.

A source close to the player told the Siya crew that senior Chiefs officials have been following the youngster’s progress this season, with the intention of possibly bringing the 22-year-old to Naturena next season.

“Since the first time they showed interest in the player, they have always wanted to bring him on board. Now the interest is growing each and every week.”

“It's good that the player is also improving every time he plays and the trip to Brazil for the Olympics will also help him. But Chiefs have never stopped their interest in him," the source observed.

Mekoa played under Komphela at Maritzburg and it is believed that the youngster would welcome the opportunity to play under him again.
