Retired Defender Still On Chiefs’ Payroll

Kaizer Chiefs are still supporting former left back, Jimmy Jambo, with the club continuing to pay him a monthly salary.

Jambo retired from football in July 2014 after suffering a horrific knee injury for the Amakhosi back in 2013 and realising that he would not be able to get back to his best.

In February the Siya crew revealed that the ex-defender was still on Chiefs’ payroll as he was still under contract with the Naturena-based outfit.

The Zimbabwean's contract has expired since then, however he is still receiving a monthly salary from the club as he awaits his insurance money to be paid by the PSL.

A Siya source has revealed that Jambo is extremely grateful to the Amakhosi’s staff for their continued support.

“Jimmy Jambo is still on Kaizer Chiefs’ payroll as he is still being given a salary every month while awaiting his money from the PSL insurance fund to be paid,” the source close to the player's dealings said.

“There were teams in Zimbabwe who wanted to sign him, but he hasn’t been able to join because of his injury and the insurance.

“It’s been tough on the player but at least the money he gets from Chiefs every month has helped him. He is still in the country (South Africa) as we speak.”

How many other clubs do you think would do this for one of their players? Do you think most other teams would or is it a nice touch in the otherwise cutthroat business football has become?
