With Bloemfontein Celtic being on the brink of sale to TS Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi, Blomefontein-born businessman Lebogang Mokoena swooped in and managed to save the team, keeping them in Mangaung. He has now revealed his reason for this.
He has not quite revealed how just yet, but owner of Mokoena group, Lebogang has revealed that he is on a rescue mission to keep his beloved club in his city of birth.
Celtic owner Max Tshabalala's financial woes have been public and has been struggling to keep the Mangaung outfit afloat. There have been several inquiries into the top-flight status of the club, but most suitors had been turned off by the debt that followed Siwelele.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma's edition 1180, Mokoena revealed why it was necessary to save Celtic and keep it in the City of Roses, also stating that all will be made clearer in due course.
"I want to make this clear, I never had an interest in buying the team but rather, I have an interest in helping the team remain in Bloemfontein so I am just there to help with what is happening now with their financial state.
"My father is a great supporter of Bloemfontein Celtic and I was sitting with his friends the other day and they were telling me about the history of the club and how they use to travel by train to go and watch the team. So, as someone who was born there, I would like to bring back those glory days," Mokoena said.
