GI: Sometimes It's Good To Lose

Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund believes that his side was disjointed and deserved their 2-1 loss to Zimbabwe on Tuesday night.

Igesund put out a young side to take on their local rivals and it proved to be a difficult night for many as the Warriors stormed to victory.

Igesund believes that sometimes it is good to lose a game, as it gives the players a chance to see what needs to be done at international level.

"I think first of Zimbabwe were better than us. They deserved their victory. We were totally disjointed. You can see this was a team that hasn't played for two and a half months - they came from the COSAFA Cup. But that's no excuse, sometimes it's very good to lose games, because when you are trying out and you want to use players as development, and get them going, you want to see whether they can jump up to that level or not.

"Sometimes you throw them in the deep end and you can see some of them are not ready yet. We can't force the situation. I've heard people say that we must put in the COSAFA team, that's our future. It's not our future yet. They are going to come gradually - you put in players slowly.

"Sometimes it is good to lose. Zimbabwe were better than us, they had better shape. We were disjointed; we couldn't get a couple of passes together. We didn't look like a national team, we just looked like a team going out and playing.

"You can expect that sometimes when you have a very young team. I mean at the end of the game, we are losing 1-0 but we are playing at the back. We should be getting the ball in the box and that comes with experience."
