Manqele made the switch from Chippa United to the Amakhosi in the July/August transfer window and the move came as a surprise to many in the football fraternity.
The 28-year-old joined up with coach, Steve Komphela, whom he had worked under at Free State Stars, and the striker has indicated that his move to the Glamour Boys was just as unexpected for him as the general public.
“Even I was surprised. You know I still had a contract with Chippa United when Mr Mpengesi told me that Kaizer Chiefs were interested in me. He asked me if I was interested and I said I was,” Manqele told Soccer Laduma.
“Then the next day Bobby Motaung contacted me and I came to Johannesburg. The rest, as they say, is history. Though it was a surprise, I was happy to finally be playing for my childhood team.
"I don't play to prove a point to anyone. Chiefs signed me and I am here to do my job for the team. There is nothing for me to prove to anyone – just play the game I love, for the team I love.”
