Mamelodi Sundowns Could Force TKO Final Reschedule

The PSL could look at either extending or setting an earlier date for the Telkom Knockout final, should the 2015 defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns progress all the way to the final.

CAF Champions League winners, Sundowns qualified for a spot in the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup that is set to take place from 8-18 December. According to the initial fixtures released by the PSL, the TKO final is scheduled to take place on 10 December.

Sundowns have already progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition and the team is set to come up against their Tshwane rivals, SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, 5 November.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane will want to defend the team's TKO title, and claim their first piece of domestic silverware for the 2016/17 season and should the Brazilians progress to the final, the current date is scheduled during the same time that the team will be in Japan, taking part in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The defending Absa Premiership champions are still currently playing catch up in the league, with five fixtures in hand, lagging behind their PSL rivals at the top.

The PSL have already confirmed that the association will look at extending the current 2016/17 PSL season to accommodate teams like Sundowns and Bidvest Wits, who have several games in hand.

Now, it remains to be seen when the further adjustments to the PSL fixtures will be made to consider the Brazilians' upcoming global campaign.
