Former Orlando Pirates defender, Edward Motale, has criticised the recycling of coaches in the PSL and has backed Benni McCarthy or Bradley Carnell to take over the top job at his former club and bring fresh ideas into the PSL.

Pirates parted ways with Muhsin Ertugral at the beginning of November and Augusto Palacios has since taken on the role of interim coach, with the club looking to make a permanent appointment in the new year. And Motale has weighed in, saying that he hopes the club doesn't recycle some of the coaches that have recently left their clubs, including the likes of Roger da Sa and Ernst Middendorp.
"I hate this rotation of coaches from other clubs," he told Soccer Laduma "Somebody fails somewhere and they give him a job somewhere else. I don't know what the criteria is for hiring coaches. Say, for example, someone fails at Santos, he'll still have a job at Hellenic. And that's why our football isn't going places, because it's just a rotation of coaches."

The 50-year-old went on to say that Pirates need a more innovative coach to take the reins, pointing to young, up-and-coming coaches, Benni McCarthy and Bradley Carnell, who have both been learning the trade in Belgium and Mzansi, respectively, as assistants.
"There needs to be someone who has innovation," he continued. "But, for now, locally, we don't have someone who can do that. Because all this rotation, they only bring the same thing as what was there where they came from.
"Maybe Benni (McCarthy) or (Bradley) Carnell will bring fresh blood, fresh ideas. So, let's give them a chance and it will be nice to have a young coach and it will give confidence to other young coaches."
