Result: Jomo Cosmos 1-0 Orlando Pirates
Date: 23 January 2016
Venue: Olen Park
Charlton Mashumba 75th minute strike was enough to hand Jomo Cosmos a 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates at Olen Park.
Cosmos had the ball in the back of the net in the 15th minute but Charlton Mashumba's volley was ruled out because of a foul in the build-up.
Pirates should have opened the scoring after 25 minutes but Majoro failed to convert into an empty net, while Sherwyn Naicker produced a superb save to deny Gabuza from point-blank range from the rebound.
Brighton Mhlongo was called upon in the 32nd minute, as the Pirates shot-stopper pulled off a double save to deny Mashumba from six-yards out.
The Buccaneers were then awarded a penalty a few minutes later when Gabuza was brought down. However, Naicker guessed the right way and saved Majoro's penalty.
The Buccaneers ended the half as the stronger of the two sides, but the score remained the same, as the referee blew for halftime.
Naicker continued to frustrate the Buccaneers, as he did well to keep out Thabo Matlaba's stinging effort from distance in the 51st minute.
Eric Tinkler opted for a double change for the final 20 minutes, as he introduced Tendai Ndoro and Yasser Mugerwa.
However, it was Cosmos who broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, as Mashumba turned Issa Sarr, before calmly slotting into the bottom corner.
The Buccaneers continued to push for an equaliser in the closing stages but could not bypass a stubborn Cosmos defence.
The win sees Cosmos remain in 14th spot but are now two points behind Pirates, who occupy 12th position.
