Cape Town City head coach, Eric Tinkler, has emerged as the frontrunner for the SuperSport United coaching job, this according to Siya sources close to proposed deal.
Stuart Baxter’s last game in charge of Matsatsantsa will be on June 24, when his side lock horns with Orlando Pirates in the final of the 2017 Nedbank Cup competition and the Englishman will thereafter return to his permanent role as the head coach of Bafana Bafana.
Indications are that the Tshwane giants have already begun the process of appointing a new head coach for the team and the Siya crew has since been informed by a reliable source that City’s 2016 Telkom Knockout winning coach, Tinkler is currently heavily linked to the vacant coaching role.
As reported previously by Soccer Laduma, former Pirates head coach, Ruud Krol, has been offered to the Tshwane giants. However, word spiralling through the Matsatsantsa camp is that Tinkler is being lined up as the top candidate for the coaching role.
The former Bafana Bafana midfielder guided City to their first piece of silverware in their inaugural campaign, clinching the 2016 Telkom Knockout trophy and ended off the 2016/17 Absa Premiership at third place on the league standings.
It is believed that management at the Tshwane giants are impressed with what the head coach was able to accomplish in his first season mentoring the Mother City-based club and potentially view the 46-year-old as the next best man to take over from where Baxter left off.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Matsatsantsa will intensify their interest in Tinkler and possibly look to make advances for his services in the coming weeks.
