Former Barcelona forward Thierry Henry says it is natural for former teammate Lionel Messi to have an ego.
The Arsenal legend knows Lionel Messi well from his playing days and has suggested that all top players need to have confidence when stepping onto the field.
“He has an ego. Of course he has an ego,” he told Sky Sports.
“Do you think you do that without having an ego? It's not a bad thing.
“Having an ego is not a bad thing.
“Knowing that you are good. You need that.”
The Frenchman said he can’t believe how football fans can doubt the 27-year-old, saying that it was a pleasure watching him in action against Manchester City on Wednesday night in the Champions League last 16 second leg.
“He put himself on a level where it's impossible for me to hear people doubting this man,” he added.
“What he has done, we should all enjoy the guy, like we did tonight. It is a pleasure.”
The former Gunner joined the Spanish giants in 2007, where he played alongside Messi, scoring 49 goals in 127 games and assisting 27 for his teammates.
