Spain Announce Squad For 2020 European Chamionship Qualifiers, Nine Stars Snubbed!

Spain have announced their squad for the upcoming 2020 European Championship qualifiers, and while a number of stars were snubbed, Santi Cazorla makes a return for the first time since his near-career-ending injury.

Coach Luis Enrique has selected his squad for his men's upcoming encounters, with La Furia Roja set to take on Faroe Islands on 7 June before facing Sweden three days later on 10 June.

Villarreal midfielder Cazorla is the biggest shock inclusion in the squad, returning for the first time since 2015. The former Arsenal star, who has 77 caps under his belt, has found new life at Villarreal this season after leaving the Gunners at the end of the 2017/18 campaign following a lengthy rehabilitation process from an injury he picked up in October 2016.

Having had to undergo several operations, he picked up an infection in the process, which left doctors in fear he would never walk again or even lose the infected leg. However, he recovered fully after antibiotic treatment, and a skin transplant helped secure his playing future.

Cazorla has made 45 appearances for Villarreal in 2018/19 so far, scoring seven goals and assisting another 11 strikes.

Other surprise inclusions in Enrique's 23-man squad include Real Sociedad duo Diego Llorente and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Premier League star Marcos Alonso is one of a few players who were excluded from the squad, while Atletico Madrid duo Koke and Saul Niguez were also snubbed.

Here is Spain's 23-man squad in full, according to Spain's official Twitter account:

Goalkeepers: De Gea (Manchester United), Kepa (Chelsea), Pau Lopez (Real Betis)

Defenders: Ramos, Carvajal (both Real Madrid), Llorente (Real Sociedad), Hermoso (Espanyol), Gaya (Valencia), Inigo Martinez (Athletic Bilbao), Alba (Barcelona)

Midfielders: Sergi Roberto, Busquets (both Barcelona), Navas (Sevilla), Cazorla (Villarreal), Parejo (Valencia), Rodri (Atletico Madrid), Fabian (Napoli)

Forwards: Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad), Isco, Asensio (both Real Madrid), Rodrigo (Valencia), Aspas (Celta Vigo), Morata (Atletico Madrid, on loan from Chelsea)
