Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has beaten Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo's La Liga hat-trick record, following his three goals against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
The Argentine scored his 24th league hat-trick in the Catalan club’s 6-1 win on Sunday, which sees him surpass the Portuguese talisman’s previous La Liga record of 23 hat-tricks.
The 27-year-old has also now scored the most hat-tricks in Spanish football overall, with 32 – a tally that sees him go past Telmo Zarra’s 31 Spanish hat-tricks, Di Stefano’s 28 and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is five behind, with 27.
Messi is now tied top goal-scorer in the league with Ronaldo, with 30 goals, while he’s assisted 17 in the La Liga, and 23 in total.
Overall, Messi has already scored 41 goals this season, which are as many as he had during the whole of the last campaign.
