Barcelona frontman Lionel Messi has been in terrific form since the turn of the year, but could Luis Suarez be the reason behind the Argentine’s resurgence?
On Sunday, Messi took his league goal tally to 26 this season, as well as scored his fourth hat trick, which saw him equal Ronaldo’s record of 23 hat tricks in La Liga.
His form in 2015 has been nothing short of spectacular, after he scored 14 goals in his last 11 games and has also managed 10 assists along the way.
With Suarez also finding his feet at Camp Nou, could he be the reason behind Messi’s spectacular form?
At the start of the season the Argentine struggled with his form, and this could well have been due to fatigue from the World Cup or perhaps the fact that Suarez was seeing out a four month ban and then struggling to settle into the team.
Bar the last match against Levante, the Uruguayan forward has started all but three games since his ban has expired.
Even though he may not be scoring the same amount of goals, his presence on the park seems to have played a role in Messi’s fortunes.
Suarez has been leading the Catalan frontline, while Messi has been pushed out wide and given a free role under Luis Enrique.
It’s no secret that the Uruguayan has a greater will to get the ball off the opposition, but he also has the ability to open space for his teammates around him.
The 28-year has scored five goals and assisted in six more from the start of 2015.
Suarez is perhaps not the only reason behind Messi’s resurgence, but seeing a fitter and more settled number nine has certainly made Barcelona a deadlier force.
