The 39-year-old, who is still working as an ambassador for the Red Devils, believes Africa's Player of the Year Pierre Emerick Aubameyang could make the difference for United.
"Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, I like him," he told MUTV, when asked which star he would add to United's squad.
"Pace, scoring goals, that's what we need but, obviously we have the young Marcus Rashford.
"If we are going to bring someone in that can make a difference, he can make a difference."
Aubameyang has netted 14 goals in as many appearances this season, while assisting in three more.
The 27-year-old is one of the most sought after strikers in football right now, being linked with United, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
